About Our School
Our school is a small rural primary school which caters for girls and boys aged four to eleven. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and forms a vital part of village life. There are 36 pupils on roll. The school mainly serves the villages of North Thoresby, Grainsby and Waithe but children from the villages of Brigsley, Fulstow, Holton-le-Clay, and Ludborough also attend.
We operate as two classes, one of which provides for Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils and the other for pupils in Key Stage 2.
Children may start school at the beginning of the term immediately after their 4th birthday.
On entry the children display a wide range of attainment and there are significant variations from one year to another. The children come from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds. A significant percentage of pupils move to and from school other than at age four or eleven. As there is sometimes fewer than ten pupils in most year groups, the school is not always required to publish its end of Key Stage results.
On leaving, pupils transfer to a range of secondary schools. The designated secondary school for our catchment area is The Toll Bar Buisness and Enterprise College at New Waltham in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire. However other secondary schools which pupils transfer to are: The Birkbeck School in North Somercotes, Monk’s Dyke Technology College and Cordeaux High School in Louth, and De Aston School in Market Rasen. Pupils can opt to take their 11+ in order to achieve a place at either King Edward VI Grammar School in Louth or Caistor Grammar School in Caistor.
North Thoresby Primary School is principally a place where pupils, families, staff, governors and friends can learn together in partnership, in an atmosphere of co-operation. We promote attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility, and the ideal that every child has the right to be educated and to learn. In line with current national and local priorities we are including the Foundation Stage and Writing in our School Improvement Plan.
